Early Medieval copper alloy shrine mount
Imitation cip-carved, circular medallion, with two metal tabs on the back which would have passed through slots in the metal facing plates and wooden core of a house-shaped shrine. Pins would have passed through the holes in these tags to secure the mount to the side. The central recess would have held an amber or glass stud, and the collet is decorated with radiating ridges. The sunken circular field around the collet is decorated with an interlaced running knot pattern. The external edge is vertical and plain. Though pitted in places, it appears to have been gilt, suggesting that it would have been visible rather than hidden by a border frame.
