Early Medieval silver arm ring
Silver arm ring of broad-band type with stamped decoration. The main field is stamped with two rows of "hourglass" design with straight indented top and bottom edges. The hourglasses contain 5 pellets 3 on one side 2 on the other (the central pellet is off centre). Tapering ends are punched with transverse indented lines, as along the edge of the main field. This example is remarkable for its fine condition and complete state, as arm rings were often cut up as hack silver to form part of an active bullion economy.
