Seal impression: Beverley, Yorkshire
Seated on a carved throne somewhat resembling that on the great seal of Edward I, St John of Beverley, archbishop of York, vested in pontificals, his right hand raised in blessing, his left holding his primatial cross. Under his feet, a fox passant to dexter, between , to either side, a tree bearing a shield, dext. an eagle displayed, BEVERLEY; sin. a pall surmounted by a cross, PROVINCE OF YORK, impaling a pale lozengy, SAVAGE (for Thomas Savage, archbishop, 1501-07). Above St John’s right shoulder, a crescent; to sinister of his mitre, a small star
