Roman pottery bowl
Grooved rim in place of flange, and slightly marked carination
Roman pottery bowl from Holt, Wrexham, 80-250 CE.
The Roman army mass-produced this pottery at Holt. They established kilns on the west bank of the river Dee to supply the Twentieth Legion at Chester. The products were carried to Chester by river. Most of the pottery they produced was oxidized ware, with an orangey-red colour, but they also made some fine green glazed pottery.
