Figure of Milton, white earthenware, crackle glaze, some black firing speckles and discolouration especially on left arm, standing on a rectangular base with canted corners inscribed in gilt raised capitals on a narrow plaque with canted ends, plinth encircled by a band of vertical ridges. Milton largely white and gilt, with black shoes with gilt bows, white hose, white knee breeches with a gilt pattern tied with a ribbon garter at the knee, doublet with further gilt detailing outlining shirt frills at wrist, shirt collar and string at neck, full cloak, naturalistically painted face, long grey wig. Figure twisted to right, right arm bent across body holding cloak, left elbow resting on pile of three books crudely painted in black, holding a scroll in left hand, books placed on a drum shaped pedestal moulded with figures.
