Cup, tea and saucer

Swansea China Works

Teacup and saucer, soft-paste 'duck egg' porclain, greenish translucency; the cup standing on a rounded foot rim, London shape tapering and angled sides, thick curvaceous ogee handle; conventional saucer with everted rim and recessed centre on shallow foot rim; the cup decorated on the interior with a broad band of underglaze blue reserved with two ovals of flowers on a white ground amid red and white chrysanthemum heads and gilt foliage, and on the exterior with an oriental landscape comprising two pierced rocks, a bird, flowers, foliage and a fence. The saucer is similarly decorated with an underglaze blue band to the rim reserved with three ovals of flowers amid chrysanthemum heads and gilt foliage, and with an oriental landscape of rocks etc. within a salmon pink band embellished with gilt foliage in the centre.
