Rugby cap
Rugby cap of purple silk velvet, crown constructed of 6 triangular sections (seams covered with narrow metal braid). Centre: domed button covered with metal purl. Metal thread cord stitched down onto the cap in the shape of a loop (proper left side beside the button). At the end of the rope is a metal purl tassle.
Centre front has raised metal thread embroidery: Prince of Wales Plumes with scroll reading: 'W.F.U.' on blue silk ground. Below is the word 'Trial'. Lower edge of cap is trimmed with metal braid (w: 1.3cm). Lower edge of peak is trimmed with narrow metal braid (same as on crown). '1904' is embroidered onto peak with metal thread (purl). Cap is lined with purple twill fabric (6 triangular sections stitched together) warp faced, (warp = silk, weft = cotton) Maker's label (linen) machine stitched to lining. Player's name written on this label in brown ink: 'T.H.Vile 6 9/8',
