Plate
Nantgarw China Works (1813 - 1822)
Pardoe, Thomas (1770-1823)
Plate, soft-paste porcelain, clear white translucency, a greenish tinge to the glaze and a bright green patch under the rim; standing on a shallow foot, the rim moulded with six large and six small lobes, and with the standard Nantgarw moulding of C-scrolls, ribbon-tied foliage wreaths and florets; painted with a floral bouquet and with a sprig of flowers, and with three further sprigs on the rim, gilt rim line.
The decoration on this dish includes sunflowers, a popular symbol of the Arts and Crafts movement. William De Morgan (1839-1917) revived the use of lustre glazes on ceramics and often worked in a Persian-influenced style.
