Medieval lead alloy seal matrix
Medieval lead alloy seal matrix
The surface of the matrix is pitted and worn, obscuring the detail of the design.
Vessica-shaped seal matrix. The matrix face has an engraved design of an ecclesiastical male figure at the centre, beneath an architectural canopy. The figure (likely a bishop) is robed and wearsa mitre, and holds a crozier in his right hand.
The remains of a now illegible inscription are present on a small portion of the right side of the matrix face.
The back is plain with a damaged suspension loop attached horizontally to the middle of the matrix.
