Colour photograph showing ship breaking yard below the swing bridge on the River Neath, and the ruins of "Skewen main" wharfs, (Neath Abbey Ironworks wharf) with the frigate H.M.S. PALLISER in for breaking, 28 March 1983. The frigate H.M.S. PALLISER was a long term resident of the River Neath, the Lightship No.72 had been berthed on the river bank just upstream of Neath Abbey Wharf near Skewen since 30th May 1973 when she was purchased by the Steel Supply Company (Western) Ltd for scrap. Her new owners decided against scrapping the vessel and had her painted yellow, and for a short period she was used as the Company's office.
HMS Palliser (F94) was a Blackwood or Type 14 class second-rate anti-submarine frigate of the British Royal Navy. Launched 1956, broken up 1983.
