Bill hook
Single edged tanged billhook for cutting branches during hedge laying. Stamped 'D.Roberts Ty'n y cefn'. Late 19th century. Made by D. Roberts, whitesmith and blacksmith, Ty'n-y-cefn, Corwen, Denbighshire.
It was the local blacksmith who made and repaired the farmer’s implements and tools. He made a huge variety of items, from nails, staples and pig nose rings to hand tools like pitchforks and dung hooks. During harvesting and other busy periods, the smithy would be open for long hours to do urgent repairs.
