Name plate
A brass manufacturer’ name plate. The name plate was removed from one of 36 slate saw tables at the Australia mill, Dinorwig Quarry in 1978 by Mr John Peredur Hughes, and given to Gwynfor Pierce Jones.
It is unknown who was responsible for the work of installing the saw mill at the Australia level during the 1920’s. Gwynfor Pierce Jones believes that the saw tables were cast at the Glaslyn Foundry, Porthmadog, and then installed by Ingersoll Rand. This nameplate on one of the saw tables is evidence in favour of this theory (as Ingersoll Rand did not have a foundry it was impossible for them to cast the saw table, but the name plate suggests that they had a part to play in installing the saw tables at the mill).
