Saucer, hard-paste porcelain, pale peach coloured ground, eight cornered rectangular cartouche painted in polychrome enamels with figures before the town of Strongoli in a mountainous landscape with a frame of gilding, small white ground cartouche above inscribed in French. Deep border of gilding, tooled, polished and in relief, comprising anthemions pendent from a broad beaded band rim lined in brown. Landscape taken from plate 56 facing p 101 of volume III of Voyage Pittoresque ou Description Des Royaumes de Naples et Sicile, by the Abbe Richard de St.-Non (Paris,1783) Two small rim chips.
