In 1896 the main activities of the enterprise established by John Mathias were moved to Cardiff where a new firm, the grandly-titled ‘Cambrian Steam Navigation Co. Ltd.’, was established. For some unknown reason, the company later began to name its ships after public school; the first of them was this steamer, the Etonian, built by Grays of West Hartlepool in 1901. Sold to Italian owners in 1913, and renamed Pietro, she was torpedoed on 23 December 1917.

Dear Sir or Madam,
The Captain of this vessel was my Great Great Grandfather Captain WF Wood.
Would it it be possible to have a photo copy made of the painting and sent to me in London. If possible I would be happy to pay for the cost.
With kind regards,

Eddie Rhoades
