The steam trawler Hirose was built in 1921 by Cook, Welton and Gemmel of Beverley for Neale and West of Cardiff. Established in 1885, this was Cardiff’s only trawling company, and J.J. Neale’s associations with Japanese trawler owners led to the vessels being given Japanese names. The Hirose was sold to Pettit and Youds of Milford Haven in 1929.
