Museum Workshop

Art and Activism

Throughout history, art has been used as a tool for communication, raising awareness about social issues and affecting positive change. Explore how art and artists use creativity to shed light on, and challenge issues that impact society. 

In this workshop students will:  

  • Explore artworks in Amgueddfa Cymru collections that bring awareness to issues.  
  • Identify a current social issue that matters to them 
  • Come up with a design concept for a piece of art that brings awareness to this issue 

We can focus on anti-racism or the climate emergency within this session. Please express your preference when booking.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: Led by Museum staff - £40 for up to 15 pupils, £60 for up to 35. Free for some schools (see booking information).

Curriculum

Expressive Arts

  • Exploring the expressive arts is essential to developing artistic skills and knowledge and it enables learners to become curious and creative individuals. 
  • Responding and reflecting, both as artist and audience, is a fundamental part of learning in the expressive arts. 

Humanities

  • Human societies are complex and diverse, and shaped by human actions and beliefs. 
  • Informed, self-aware citizens engage with the challenges and opportunities that face humanity and are able to take considered and ethical action.
