The unseen story of Wales and Slavery
The transatlantic trade in enslaved African people, which started in the 1500s, was gigantic in scale. At least 12 million Africans were taken abroad by force to be enslaved labour.
Wales benefited from this trade in many ways, but often the ways Wales benefitted are hard to see. Let’s look at some objects, that may seem like they have nothing to do with the transatlantic trade in enslaved African people.
