Is a self-portrait the original selfie? Our exciting new Amgueddfa Cymru exhibition Art of the Selfie explores and asks this question, looking at how artists through time, from Rembrandt and Van Gogh to Bedwyr Williams and Anya Paintsil, see and represent themselves.

If you’d like to explore portraiture further, then why not book onto Exploring Identity Through Portraits workshop facilitated by our learning staff? Through analysing different styles of portraits learners will discover new artists and discuss portraiture and its uses in historical and contemporary contexts.  In responding and reflecting on the art on display we will consider how our own lives and identities connect with the artwork.
