Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales have today announced that they will host a virtual food festival online on 12^th and 13^th September in place of their annual food festival which usually takes place at St Fagans National Museum of History.

Due to the current restrictions around Covid-19, the St Fagans Food Festival which usually attracts 25,000 visitors over the weekend, cannot take place.

The revamped Amgueddfa Cymru Food Festival will now take place on the Museum’s website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Crowdcast. The festival will offer a programme packed with of foodie activities for all ages including talks, tastings and cooking demonstrations. Activities will include a Welsh beer and cider tasting session in partnership with Cywain, a bakealong with One Mile Bakery, and a discussion on the future of food in Cardiff, presented by Food Cardiff, plus lots more.

There will also be activities for children including circus skills and storytelling sessions.

The Museum have partnered with BBC Horizons and Tafwyl again this year to bring exclusive music performances straight to audiences’ living room.

“We’re excited to present our first virtual food festival.  The annual food festival is a highlight in Amgueddfa Cymru’s events calendar, so we wanted to keep in touch with those audiences. The event will be available for everyone across Wales, and beyond, to enjoy and experience the food festival from their own homes. We’ll be joined by a whole host of producers and demonstrators across the weekend who’ll be sharing recipes, tips and takeaway inspiration.

Last year’s collaboration BBC Horizon and Tafwyl to showcase some of Wales’ best musical talent was a success and we’re delighted to collaborate with them once again this year.”

Nick Macleod of One Mile Bakery who will be hosting a bakealong during the event said:

"It's fantastic to be involved with the food festival again this year. While we are all sorry not to be able to run our baking course at St Fagans National Museum of History as last year, the digital festival is really exciting in its own right. We can’t wait to take part.”

The Amgueddfa Cymru food festival is a free event, with some paid ticketed experiences.

A full programme of activities will be published on the Museum’s website in the lead up to the event.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a family of seven museums and a collections centre, which are all free to enter thanks to the support of the Welsh Government. Together, it is home to the nation’s art, history, heritage and science collections, which will continue to grow so that they can be used and enjoyed by both present and future generations.

One of its museums, St Fagans National Museum of History which explores the history and culture of Wales, won the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.
