The Vulcan Hotel was first registered as an ‘ale house’ in 1853. It served the mainly Irish community of what was then called Newtown. During its long history it saw major changes as Cardiff grew to become an industrial powerhouse and then the nation’s capital, finally closing its doors for the last time in 2012.
Following a passionate campaign to save it from demolition, The Vulcan was formally offered to Amgueddfa Cymru in 2012. In May of that year, St Fagans’ historic buildings team began to carefully record and dismantle the famous landmark, before bringing it brick by brick to the Museum.
The Vulcan Hotel – Cardiff’s newest Victorian pub – is ready to open its doors once again. It is set in 1915, after the completion of a major refurbishment that saw the addition of the glazed tiles to its front.
Due to the expected crowds, booking is not essential, but is advised when visiting The Vulcan. Guarantee a seat with one of our pre-booked beer flights, showcasing the three The Vulcan beers brewed for us by local legends, Glamorgan Brewing Co. or enjoy a Heartsease Farm Sparkling Traditional Lemonade.
