online:Natur am Byth Webinar 2: Distinct but Difficult: Rare Insects in North Wales
Join our natural history curators for a special, live webinar about some of Wales’ most rarely seen wild animals and plants.
This time we’ll investigate two charismatic species from North Wales: the cliff-dwelling Large Mason Bee, and the wetland-loving Clubbed General Soldierfly. We’ll reveal why these attractive species are rare, and what makes them unique.
Learn about how and where they can be found and recognised, how they are connected to people, and what is being done to help save them from extinction.
This webinar is one of a series of online species identification experiences, hosted by our natural history curators at Amgueddfa Cymru. Using photos and video from the Museum and from outdoor habitats, our expert curators will take you on a “virtual field trip” revealing what makes each species unique, and what it takes to protect them. This series covers species selected from among the many targeted by Natur am Byth, a Wales-wide Green Recovery partnership uniting nine conservation organisations with Natural Resources Wales.
We are deliberately showcasing species that are less widely known, and hard to recognize. Improving people’s connection to these species is an important aim of Natur am Byth. Nevertheless, the webinars are open to all, and are aimed at anyone curious about Welsh wildlife.
Thanks to players of the National Lottery, Natur am Byth is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by Natural Resources Wales, Welsh Government and other funders listed on their programme website.
