Talk:A Portrait of Britain? Personal & Professional Reflections on Picture Post and the Hulton Archive
Join us for a discussion about the significance and legacy of the British photo-magazine, Picture Post. Launched in 1938, Picture Post documented a period of dramatic political and cultural change. With circulation figures reaching 1.7 million copies, it was seen and shared in homes and workplaces across the country. We will be joined by a panel of experts including, curators, photographers and academics, whose research and practice has been informed and shaped by the publication. Panellists include:

This event has been organised in partnership with the Tom Hopkinson Centre for Media History at Cardiff University. It is part of a series of events programmed in association with the exhibition, Picture Post: A Twentieth Century Icon (24 May – 9 November 2025), including the research workshop ‘Picture Post: Genesis, History & Legacy of a Photo-Magazine’, which takes place at Cardiff University on 13 June (09:00 – 17:30).
