You're invited to the ultimate sleepover - discover what goes on after dark in an unforgettable night at the Museum.   

 

Here's the plan: 

  • Take a torch lit tour to explore Wales as it was 200 million years ago when dinosaurs ruled the land. 
  • Say hello to some prehistoric pals in a Dino show the whole family will love featuring Dinomania! remember. 
  • Get creative in our craft workshops - you'll be inspired by fossils, footprints and bones from the Museum's collection. 
  • Wind down  with a film in our historic Reardon Smith Theatre. 
  • Roll out your sleeping bag right next to our Mammoth  and camp under the Museum’s iconic dome to dream of ancient lands filled with fabulous beasts. 
  • Or, get the VIP treatment and nestle to sleep in our Natural History and Evolution of Wales galleries. Hurry! Spaces are limited. 
  • Wake up for breakfast before joining a one-of-a-kind, gentle family yoga class with the brilliant Eleri Morgan. A perfect way to start the day for those sleepy heads and early risers.

Limited tickets available. This event is perfect for children aged six to twelve.  All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are non-refundable.

 Admission

Free Entry

Amgueddfa Cymru belongs to everyone, and admission to the Museum is free thanks to funding from the Welsh Government. 

Booking a free day ticket in advance will ensure you receive key information and updates before your visit, helping you to make the most of your experience. 

Admission is free, however a charge may apply for some exhibitions, events and activities.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For safety reasons, we reserve the right to conduct bag searches when entering the Museum​.

 Opening Hours

Winter Opening Hours: From Tuesday 4 November until 13 February 2026, we will be open 10am – 4pm. 

Galleries close at 3.45pm.

Open for 6 days a week Tuesday to Sunday. Closed Mondays but open Bank Holiday Monday.

Admission is free, however a charge may apply for some exhibitions, events and activities.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

 Parking

A Visitor Car Park is situated behind the Museum, off Museum Avenue. Visitors parking here will receive a ticket at the point of entry and need to pay £6.50 for the day at a pay-station located at the rear of the car park. Please note that the pay-stations only accept card payments – no cash payments are accepted. Visitors can use any credit/debit cards (except for American Express), or Apple or Android Pay.

Parking is free to blue badge holders. Please use the intercom at the exit barrier to verify your blue badge permit. Disabled parking is also available at the front of the Museum, on Gorsedd Gardens Road.

 Eat, Drink, Shopping

  • The Museum café in the Main Hall is open every day 10am-4pm offering a range of drinks and snacks.

 Accessibility

If you prefer to visit when we’re less crowded, there are usually fewer people on our site from 3pm each day.

Reserve time in National Museum Cardiff's multifaith room.

This is a clean and quiet area for reflection, contemplation, and worship.

Please be aware that this space may be shared with other members of the public and must be kept clean.

Privacy screens are available if required.
