Join us for the next exciting Paint Along at the National Museum, Cardiff! 

Join Welsh artist Rachel Rasmussen for a step‑by‑step guided paint along, inspired by the work of Gwen John and our new major exhibition Gwen John: Strange Beauties.

 

Family Event: Cats (Recommended age 6+ | 3pm - 5pm) Book Now

Inspired by Gwen John’s own love for cats, you’ll be guided step-by-step to paint your own moggy! 

Adult Event: Tenby (18+ only | 7pm – 10pm)  Book Now

Drawing on their shared roots in Tenby, Rachel will transport you to the Tenby landscape, capturing the colours and style that echo Gwen’s sublime artistry. 

 

Whether you’re passionate about painting or just looking to unleash the creative person within you - this event is for everyone, no experience needed.

Important information: 

All materials will be provided and are included in the ticket price.  

Family event: Children must be always supervised and must not be left unattended or to take part without a guardian.  This is an event for all the family, and we strongly encourage the adults to book on too, so you can enjoy the painting experience together. 

Adult Event: Sip while you paint.  Our pop-up bar will be open for orders from start to finish.  Drinks are not included in the ticket price.   

This event will be delivered and guided in the artists’ first language, which is English.

Limited spaces available. All tickets are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for an alternative date or event.  Please ensure that you are 100% happy with your choices before booking.

Free Entry

Amgueddfa Cymru belongs to everyone, and admission to the Museum is free thanks to funding from the Welsh Government. 

Booking a free day ticket in advance will ensure you receive key information and updates before your visit, helping you to make the most of your experience. 

Admission is free, however a charge may apply for some exhibitions, events and activities.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For safety reasons, we reserve the right to conduct bag searches when entering the Museum​.

 Parking

A Visitor Car Park is situated behind the Museum, off Museum Avenue. Visitors parking here will receive a ticket at the point of entry and need to pay £6.50 for the day at a pay-station located at the rear of the car park. Please note that the pay-stations only accept card payments – no cash payments are accepted. Visitors can use any credit/debit cards (except for American Express), or Apple or Android Pay.

Parking is free to blue badge holders. Please use the intercom at the exit barrier to verify your blue badge permit. Disabled parking is also available at the front of the Museum, on Gorsedd Gardens Road.

  • The Museum café in the Main Hall is open every day 10am-4pm offering a range of drinks and snacks.

 Accessibility

If you prefer to visit when we’re less crowded, there are usually fewer people on our site from 3pm each day.

This is a clean and quiet area for reflection, contemplation, and worship.

Please be aware that this space may be shared with other members of the public and must be kept clean.
