Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Ingot (fragment)

unknown (Manufacturer)

Part of an ingot of Case-type metal with 9% tin, 11% antimony and 80% lead. Case-types are cast at a comparatively slow rate and metal with higher melting point can be used, because the type has ample time to solidify before it is removed from the mould. The relatively high proportion of tin and antimony give the necessary hardness to enable the type to stand up to the handling it will receive.
