Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Jug, coffee, and cover

Coffee jug, hard-paste porcelain, bulbous pear-shaped body, beak spout modelled with a female mask and rococo scrolls to the underside, and a scrolled handle with foliate moulding, domed cover with a finial in the form of a pear with a stem and leaves and a pierced steam hole; finely painted in polychrome enamels with around the neck of the jug and the sides of the cover a puce scale border edged with gilt and issuing festoons of flowers, further floral sprigs around the lower body of the jug, the mask to the spout painted in naturalistic enamels and the scrolls picked out in gilt, the handle picked out in gilt, the finial painted in naturalistic enamels, gilt lines around the rim of the neck and cover.
