Snow White

SEARLE, Berni (Artist)

Berni Searle’s powerful photographic and moving image works explore how the social and political transmit to the body, particularly in relation to her upbringing in Apartheid-era South Africa. This two-screen installation shows the artist from different angles as white flour and water cascade onto her skin, then kneading the flour and water into dough. Snow White defies linear interpretation and is a poetic meditation on race, the self and feminine labour.

These images are stills from a film or video artwork. Artist films are often created with specific experiences or physical spaces in mind. As a result, and for additional copyright reasons, we’re currently unable to show the full work as it was intended online.
