British Empire Medal

British Empire medal awarded in 1948 to Mr Richard Dally, of Llanhilleth, for services to mining (he worked for 68 years underground). Mr Dally started work aged 11 in 1879 at River Level, Abernant. He finished at Llanhilleth Colliery in about 1948 (probably 1949). Mr Dally was a haulier, and his last horse was called 'Britain'. Medal is on a red ribbon, with thin white strip down each side, and with clasp. In original box (2010.41/2) with letter (2010.41/3) and minitaure medal (2010.41/4).
