Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Seal impression: Bishop of Llandaff

Under a gothic-type canopy, the blessed trinity: God the Father seated and supporting the crucified Christ, by his left shoulder an eagle (?dove) representing the Holy Spirit descending: foliage by the Father'r right shoulder and inthe field; in base, the bishop kneels to the left in prayer, mitred and with his pastoral staff, with sinister a shield: a bend, in chief a book or billet (poss. a canton), for PEVERELL (though not the usual family arms). Some see the seven tall pinnacles adorning the canopy as alluding to the 'mystic seven of the candlesticks' - the churches of Asia Minor and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Cabled border.
