Coal miner's safety helmet

Type of mining helmet of mid 1950s. It was very damage resistant as can be seen from the cut on the crown of the helmet. This cut was caused by a stone falling from the roof of a 9 foot seam at Abercynon Pit in May 1978. The wearer being slightly concussed but having no scalp injury.
