Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Richard Fenton (1747-1821)

Born in St David's Pembrokeshire, Fenton (1742-1821) was an author of poetry and topographical works including 'Historical Tour Through Pembrokeshire'. His friends included Oliver Goldsmith and Sir Richard Colt Hoare of Stourhead. Painted probably in the1770s when the artist was at the beginning of a successful career, this 'gentleman of very elegant manners' is shown contemplating a bust of Homer.
