Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Madame Zborowska (Anna Hanka)

Painted in around 1919, this portrait depicts Anna Zborowska, the wife of the Parisian dealer Leopold Zborowski. Hugh Blaker and Gwendoline Davies purchased paintings from his exhibition of Derain, Vlaminck, Modigliani and Picasso in London in 1919. The portrait is thinly painted in tempera and sponged to further soften the contours. It was purchased by Margaret Davies in 1920.

Work was part of the AFA tour (2009-2010): From Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales
