M.V. GATHORNE was built in Cardiff in 1873 in Hills Dry Dock off East Bute Dock. Sold to Spanish owners in 1878 she was later bought by James Jenkins in January 1897. She was cut up in Boulogne in 1912.

Creation/Production

Born in 1922, Newport. Served in the Royal Navy on the Atlantic & Arctic convoys during the Second World War. After war became a painter and decorator. Gave that up in the mid 1970s due to illness and became an artist. At first painting ships he was familiar with, especially Newport ships, and later moving onto sailing vessels.
