Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Universal Colliery, Senghenydd, photograph

Benton, W. (Photographer)

Photograph of postcard "Welsh Pit Disaster. A little mother waiting for news." Another of the postcard series of the time. A young wife waits on the mountainside overlooking the colliery with her child in her arms. The baby is cradled in a shawl tucked around its mother in "Welsh Fashion" peculiar to the Welsh valleys. Note the heavy boots she wears and the boy down the hill with an Eton collar.
