Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Three figures with black Drei gestaffelte figuren mit schwarz

Baumeister was born in Stuttgart, where he trained as a decorator and painter. From 1908 he was friendly with the artist and designer Oskar Schlemmer, with whom he designed murals for the Werkbund exhibition in 1914. This abstract-figurative composition was conceived with mural painting in mind. Typically, it utilises layering and perspective effects to express spatial illusionism. This work was given by Baumeister to the French artist Fernand Léger.
