Commemorative handkerchief

First World War souvenir silk square handkerchief, with a fringed border. Printed with Egyptian scenes, flag of Egypt, the Union Jack and images of King George V, King Feisal, the Turkish president, the Russian Tsar, the French president and King Albert of the Belgians. Inscribed: 'Souvenir of Egypt'.

Selvages on left and right; full width of woven fabric = 49.5cm. Upper and lower edge are finished with a narrow turned back seam held with machine-stitches using a cream thread (S-twist). Fringe: lengths of cream floss silk have been knotted to the 4 edges, at a distance of c. 1.8cm apart. Each length has been split into two strands and knotted together with its neighbouring strands.
