Lewis, John (Manufacturer)

Cast brass fleur-de-lis ornament. Made by John Lewis, who was born at Morriston in 1832, and married Hannah Jones at Llangynwyd Church, Maesteg in 1854. He died in 1890. He was a foundry moulder from Morriston, and worked in a Swansea copper works and made this object for his family home. Family tradition relates that his daughter Mary Ann (born 1868) when ages nine held a candle during winter evenings for her father as he worked on some of these items.
