S.S. BARON COCHRANE (3385gt). Built 1927 by Ayrshire Dockyard Ltd., Irvine for Kelvin Shipping Co., of Ardrossan and managed by H. Hogarth & Sons. She was on a voyage from Cardiff to Rio de Janeiro with a cargo of coal when she was torpedoed by three U-boats and finally sunk northwest of the Azores just before midnight on 28 December 1942 with a loss of two lives. The 42 survivors were picked up by HMS MILNE and landed at Ponta Delgada.
