Laid down 1917 as CLAN MORGAN but completed 1919 by William Hamilton & Co Ltd., Port Glasgow (with triple-expansion steam engine by David Rowan & Co), as CLAN MATHESON for Clan Line Steamers Ltd., managed by Cayzer, Irvine & Co Ltd. 1948 – Sold to British & South American Steam Navigation Ltd., and renamed HARMODIUS, managed by Houston Line Ltd. 1951 – Sold to Heron Steamship Co Ltd., and renamed CLAIRE T. 1953 – Ownership transferred to Romney Steamship Co Ltd. 1955 – Sold to the UK Ministry of Transport, and renamed EMPIRE CLAIRE. She was towed from Stranraer on 27th July and scuttled on the same day with a cargo of obsolete munitions as part of Operation Sandcastle. (wikipedia)
