Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Jug and cover

Jug, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a short cylindrical foot-rim, pear-shaped body with cylindrical neck and rounded lip-rim, triangular beak spout with stylized foliate-moulding to the underside, scrolled loop handle with foliate-moulding at the shoulder forming a raised thumb-spur and foliate-moulding to the lower part of the handle, round domed cover with to the top an apple finial with leaf and stem; finely painted in polychrome enamels with to the front of the exterior body of the jug a large group of fruit bordered below by rococo scrolls in puce, a smaller group of fruit with a puce rococo scroll border to the cover, two further sprays of fruit to the exterior body of the jug and one to the handle, the spout and handle picked out in gilt, gilt edges to the lip-rim of the jug and the rim of the cover, the finial painted in puce, yellow and green.
