PEMBROKESHIRE LASS Going Out of Naples (painting)

Funno, Michele ((active c.1837-1865))

Starboard view of the schooner PEMBROKESHIRE LASS leaving Naples on 27th November 1842. Vesuvius and harbour can be seen at bottom left. Title painted in white on grey along bottom edge. Signed bottom left.

The schooner Pembrokeshire Lass was built at Milford Haven in 1840 for local shipowner William Davies. She was typical of hundreds of similar vessels that traded coastwise and deep-sea in the last century. Sold to David Flynn of Cork in 1875, she was wrecked on a beach near Southport on 28 May 1877.

Schooner of 132 gross tons built Milford Haven in 1840 for William Davies & Co., re-rigged as a brigantine in 1860. Sold to David Flyn of Cork in 1875. Wrecked off Southport 28 May 1877 whilst bound Cork - Liverpool with pitwood, all crew members saved.
