Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Box and cover

Box, silver, standing on four short scroll-form legs, oval body with bulbous sides and out-curved rim, hinged cover with flat rim secured by a shaped and pierced hasp and surmounted by a ring handle in the form of a coiled serpent; the box and cover chased and embossed with lobes and acanthus leaves, the flat rim of the lid with an applied moulded wire chased for part of its length, engraved on the lid the later crest of a demi luce palewise.
