Bwllfa Colliery, photograph

unknown (Photographer)

Part of the lamproom at Bwllfa Colliery, Aberdare, before the introduction of the miners' electric lamps. All the miners' at the time used oil lamps both for illumination and testing for gas. Each man's check is positioned at the foot of his lamp. There are nearly a thousand lamps in the photograph and this is only part of the lamproom at that time.
