Albion Colliery disaster brooch, 1894

Gold Victorian bar type brooch with view of Albion Colliery engraved in centre, on either side a floral design with brass ball decoration around left and right edges and inscription with pin fitting. Hallmarked on reverse (Birmingham 9.375).

290 men and boys died in the Albion disaster in 1894. Selling brooches helped raise money for those affected.
