Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Ecuelle, soft-paste porcelain, oval form with short foot-rim and rounded lobed sides, oval domed cover with lobed sides, a notch for a spoon at one end, to the top of the cover a handle modelled in the form of linked twigs; the exterior sides of the ecuelle and the top of the cover covered with a deep blue ground against which are reserved panels framed in gilt and decorated in gilt with hunting scenes, gilt birds to the sides of the ecuelle and cover between the panels, to the top of the cover a circular reserved panel also framed in gilt and painted with the gilt monogram 'DV', the hand picked out in gilt, gilt lines around the rims of the cover and ecuelle. Stand, soft-paste porcelain, oval shape with short foot-rim and curving lobed sides; the upperside covered with a deep blue ground against which are reserved two panels framed in gilt and decorated in gilt with hunting scenes, two birds painted in gilt to the sides of the well between the panels, to the centre of the well a circular reserved panel framed in gilt and painted in gilt with the monogram 'DV', gilt lines around the rims.
