Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Plate

Plate, soft-paste porcelain ('duck-egg' body), circular with flared concave profile and plain rim; enamelled with a stylised floral pattern comprising six passion flowers in yellow and blue and trailing foliage with twisted tendrils and red fruits or buds, plain gilded band round the rim.

This unique plate is decorated with a striking pattern of stylised yellow and blue passion flowers. Two other plates decorated in this unusual manner are known. They may have originally belonged to a ‘harlequin’ dessert service. This is a service comprising pieces decorated in the same style, but with different patterns.
