Circular plate hand painted over glaze with mainly black decoration of flowers, with memorial inscription at centre.

Hand painted plate 'In loving memory of my dear brother Phillip Lower aged 22 years who was accidently killed in Senghenydd explosion Oct. 14 1913. A sudden change and in a moment fell I had not time to bid my friends farewell. Think this not strange death happens unto all. This day was mine tomorrow you may fall. He's gone to rest.' Phillip Lower was 22 years old and lived in St Cenydd Terrace, Senghenydd.
