Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Civilian Victim, Vietnam, 1967

Born in 1936 in Rhuddlan, in north Wales, Philip Jones Griffiths forged a career as a freelance photographer which took him on assignments across the world. His ground-breaking coverage of the Vietnam War portrayed the true horrors of the conflict and is hailed as one of the most significant pieces of photojournalism of the twentieth century. Griffiths’ book, Vietnam Inc was published in 1971 and contributed to changing public opinion and the political landscape in America, which ultimately helped put an end to the war. Griffiths felt great affinity with the Vietnamese people and re-visited the country every year until his death in 2008.
