Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Queen Catherine of Aragon (1485-1536)

Catherine was the first wife of King Henry VIII, and the daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. This portrait was probably painted after Catherine's death, when the reign of her daughter Mary I caused a huge demand for her likeness. It is based on one painted around 1530, shortly before Catherine's divorce from the King.
