Bronze Age Gold from Wales
Aurora
CARRIÈRE, Eugène (1849 - 1906)
During his youth in Strasbourg Carriére trained as a lithographer and in 1897 he received a major prize for his graphic work. In the same year he produced a poster of a woman standing on a mountain before swirling dawn mists for the newspaper 'L'aurore', whose editor Georges Clemenceau was a friend. This hazy landscape with figures greeting the dawn is a preparatory study for this lithograph. It was purchased by Gwendoline Davies in 1920.
